Sammon Contracting was officially appointed on 6th January 2012 to commence work on a primary care facility in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. In addition to being extremely successful in the construction of education projects, which the company is recognised for worldwide, healthcare provides another niche related to social infrastructure projects that the company ventures into.

The campus will include the primary care facility itself, offices and training rooms for Kildare VEC and a 900 sq meter gymnasium and sports hall. 250 direct construction jobs will be created during the building of the facility which is expected to take 12 months to complete. Once opened, the complete facility will employ circa 100 people.

The three storey, Primary Care facility will extend over 34,000 sq ft (3,200 sq meters approximately) and will incorporate several medical consulting and treatment rooms, dental treatment rooms, an occupational assessment room, a pharmacy, speech and language therapy rooms, a physiotherapy gymnasium, children’s health rooms and a café. Diagnostic imaging and a range of specialist services such as opthalmology will also be provided to patients. The third floor will be a purpose built education facility for the VEC.

Sammon CEO, Miceál Sammon commented: “We are committed to bringing our global experience and local knowledge to deliver first-class healthcare facilities. For the past two decades, we have been building an unsurpassed knowledge-base of construction know-how in social infrastructure, proven delivery methods and reliable results. And we are very confident that our credentials, experience and in-house expertise benefit every healthcare construction project we undertake.”

As part of the contract to acquire the site, Clarington Primary Care have committed to constructing a separate sports hall and gymnasium on the site. This hall will be used by St. Conleth’s Post Primary School.

The Newbridge Primary Care Centre is the first of a number of Primary Care projects to be developed by Clarington Primary Care with additional projects planned for Celbridge, Leixlip, Navan Road (Dublin) and Baldoyle.
