First Special Needs School Project Handed Over

June 2010 - Sammon Contracting has handed over its first fully integrated new school located in Rickardstown, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

Staff and students were delighted when Sammon Contracting started on site in December 2009 and were able to hand over the keys in less than 20 weeks.

The new school premises are highly praised, particularly the quality of space, finish and natural light and ventilation. The first phase (2,500 sq m) comprises 16 classrooms, special needs facilities and other accommodation. The school has a sensory room, special tuition facilities and carefully designed external spaces.

Scoil na Naomh Uilig is an integrated school which has a considerable number of special needs pupils. The school had been temporarily housed in prefabricated rooms on the site of the Newbridge VEC school since it opened its doors in September 2007.

Martin Heffernan, Business Development Director commented: "We are very proud and pleased that Sammon Contracting was involved in this integrated facility. The school will enable teachers and care providers to continue their exceptional work in a surrounding that is specifically built for the needs of the children."
